Project Details

We are in the final phases of our project . . . design and publication of our book Yosemite Moon. Design is under way and as soon as possible we will begin searching for the right publisher.

PREVIOUS PROJECT DETAILS

Yosemmite Moon is a book project that will contain those submissions selected for inclusion in four catagories: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Poetry and Postcard. In addition, the winners will further be chosen from six age groups: Grade School, Jr. High, High School, College, Adult and Senior (70+). The book will also include illustrations, serigraphs, early 20th century postcards, and photography.

Our Approach

We began this project in the fall of 1999. We wanted a book that was more than just beautiful photographs. We wanted a book that told everyone's story of the grandeur of Yosemite National Park not just our story.

You might wonder. . . why a writing contest? First of all to encourage the art of writing. Secondly, to create a book with many voices. Third, for fun and the thrill of winning and getting published. Four, to support the Yosemite Public Library and the Yosemite Fund. Five, to create an exhibit of the winning submissions that will travel from public library to public library to show that everyone, whatever their age has a special talent for writing when they find a love of place . . . in this case, Yosemite.

We will have several celebrity writers in the book including: (to be announced).

We expect the book to be at least 200 pages in living color. At this time we have not selected a publisher.

There will be a kick-off event held at the Yosemite Public Library on September 28, 2004. At the time of this writing this event was sponsored by: Grgich Hills Winery and Ward Groves.

Other Books by James Rigler & Gail Ward:

San Francisco Moon, published by Ten Speed in 1998.

Hawaii Sun, Aloha Moon, published by Island Heritage in 2000.
